Hello everyone,

0.9.2 is finally here, we hope you like it. You have to uninstall any previous versions of EGM.

We will be adding 25 more days to everyone’s trials in a few days. So do not worry about your trial running out!

Your previous projects may not work, if they do not, post at the support forums or e-mail us but do not PM us.

Thanks to all the feedback we got from the initial release, we have made many great changes to EGM. Here are some of the changes you can expect for 0.9.2:

  • Off-centered map.
  • More projectile features (camera tracking and environmental collision)
  • Ability to select sprite origin
  • Default game starts at Player's start position (unless a menu or map is picked in Settings)
  • All tiles origin at center for better scale and rotation. (Click "Correct Tile Placement" if your old maps don't look right.)
  • Added the ability to rotate events on the map.
  • Added zoom (known issue: zooming is odd with tiled maps)
  • Tiles have option to be physical objects, instead of just static objects. Once it is out, check the "Royal Playground" for how it can be used.
  • Testplay without saving.
  • Removed the Warning dialog from Project Settings.
  • Drag and drop background on to the selected layer.
  • Improved some old features and visuals.
  • Fixed many bugs.
  • A Feedback system (it can also be access through your Account).

What we are working on for next version:

  • XNA 4.0
  • Particles
  • Weather
  • Parallex Scrolling
  • More Event commands to help your creativity come to life
  • XBOX (including templates)
  • Improved Object Properties Explorer and other UI elements
  • More tutorials

What we know is not working correctly and will fix in later versions:
  • Better mouse gestures and controls for scaling and rotation
  • Creating a new project may cause an error to pop-up, press OK and ignore it. It will be fixed next version.

The next version will be 0.9.8.

Let’s talk about some of the templates for 0.9.2 release as well. (note: ignore any Windows Installer errors during installing the template, it will come up even if installation was successful, we will fix it in next release.)

Royal Playground (Mini-game)

This game is a physics oriented game. As the princess, your goal is to punish your subjects by shooting balls at them. The first version (will be released with 0.9.2) will include a few levels and setups but we are hoping to improve it and release it as a full mini-game (for free and open source) later this year.

*The graphics are modified versions of Cute Planet from LostGarden.com (check it out, it’s a very useful website on game making).

Controls
Arrow keys Up and Down zoom in and out
Arrow keys Left and Right move the camera left and right
W and S keys aim the cannon
Space shoots, hold space for power

RPG Template (An action rpg template)

The RPG template contains weapons, armors, spells, animations, heroes, enemies, a menu, a HUD and two maps with a quest and battle. It also comes with licensed 100% original graphics which you can use in your games if you buy EGM. We will improve the first version in the course of time.

Don't forget to tell others about us,

hey, so I am trying to open it and when launching it detects that the update is there. It attempts to install it, but then closes out and repeats it over and over. You have got some sort of install loop. I am using 0.9.1 right now.

I have updated to 0.9.2 but I had to download and run the update manually rather than automatically.

Just an FYI

Hi Inca, this may be a caching issue - try refreshing your cache in both browsers.
This can be done by using Ctrl+R in some browsers, or by deleting your temporary internet files.

I have tested it in Opera, IE7, IE8 and Firefox, so it should all work fine :)

If this continues, can you tell me what versions of each browser you are using and what glitches occur?

Thanks,
J250

Wow, finally a new release! I actually for quite some time believed you guys gave up and well since no body was ever posting I thought it was an abandoned project!

Hopefully the problems I've had before will be fixed.. though I have not messed with EGM since last October..

That is because you have to uninstall previous version of EGM and then download and install the latest version.

For the RPG Template, how are RPG parties handled? is it like RPG Maker or is it an array that contains the stats and if you add "X" person and so forth it just becomes an order?

I haven't messed with the RPG Template since very early beta. And I'm at work so I can't test right now.
I am glad EGM is still in da game!

This is something I gotta know because I honestly want to write a Final Fantasy VI SDK for Egm!

It an array that holds HeroProcessor classes. And the party is contained in the PartyProcessor which can be accessed by Global. So, Global.Party.Heroes[0] would give you the first party member.

A Tutorial should be written for this, I guess I can mess with this when I get home and try and attempt a FFVI Menu and party system.

You can try with the menu maker and you wouldn't need to code. Take a look at the RPG Template's menu for example.

Only problem I see is changing the array of the party order, like selecting a party member in the menu and switching with another member.

All Final Fantasy games have this.

You are correct, there is no Insert Party Member command, if there was, you could remove the selected party member and insert the party member into the selection index. I'll include it in next update, it would be useful.

I'm not removing, I'm switching.

Example.

- Member 1
- Member 2
- Member 3
- Member 4

If I switch member 4 and member 3, Member 4 is switched with member 3, and member 3 is switched with member 4. Member 1, and 2 remain the same.
